  • "Within my body are all the sacred places of the world, and the most profound pilgrimage I can ever make is within my own body." ~ Sahara

    About Shawna...

I am the daughter of a nurse-midwife-healer-teacher, and an astronomer-architect-artist-builder…my earliest formative influences. From childhood, I've been fascinated by intersections of mind, body, and spirit. I consider myself a "somanaut"...just as an astronaut navigates outer space, the somanaut explores the inner space of human form. I study how we are shaped and healed through movement, stillness, touch, and our connection to soul/source energy in the Universe.

My personal journey into bodywork started as a teen...studying anatomy, dance, yoga, breath, metaphysics, astrology, and meditation. I sharpened this focus with professional degrees in Health Promotion & Wellness Education (1997, University of Georgia), which covered extensive anatomy/physiology and kinesiology, exercise science, nutrition, psychology, and public health communication. A year later I completed a degree in Advanced Clinical Massage & Bodywork (1998, Utah College of Massage Therapy, 1000+ hours), advancing my knowledge of anatomical form/function, swedish and sports massage, deep tissue, structural integration, spa therapies, acupressure, reflexology, craniosacral, shiatsu, therapeutic stretching, sound therapy, plus intuition training and business/professional development.

For over a decade, I practiced as a nationally certified licensed massage therapist. I specialized in deep-tissue, structurally focused techniques. During those years, I gained experience in the spa, chiropractic, fitness, yoga, and holistic health industries. I taught clinical massage therapy and injury prevention for 3 years at an accredited California school. Additionally, I completed coursework in human energy system healing (2004-2006, LionHeart Institute of Transpersonal Energy Healing). Over the years, a key focus of my practice has been teaching clients self-care massage techniques, and the proper use of bodywork tools. As the saying goes, "Give a man a fish, he can eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, he can eat for a lifetime." I believe in teaching people about their bodies, and how they can be their own healers through knowledge and self-care.

Over time my interest and focus shifted towards myo-fascial release techniques...a "less is more" approach that provides deeper releases and lasting results. I started my private practice at a yoga studio (2007), then opened my own bodywork studio (2011). I added new specialties in Thai yoga bodywork (2008), craniosacral therapy (2010), and Yamuna body rolling (2016). As time has gone on, my work has become increasingly intuitive, my hands like antennae in silent dialogue with the body and spirit.

On the side, I've led dance meditation classes, plus drum/song circles as a means to get free "from the inside-out", and foster joy and connection. I enjoy gardening, wilderness, discovering new music, making art, vegetarian eats, furry things, comedy, and deep chats.

  • Testimonials

"I run marathons and saw Shawna after being diagnosed with a herniated disc in my neck. I'd previously tried cortisone injections and physical therapy, with only moderate improvement. I felt much better after a single session with Shawna. After two more sessions in the following weeks I continued to improve. I felt nearly 100% after the third session and have returned to normal running. I highly recommend Shawna for her work." ~ Matt W., athlete, Marietta

"If you're in pain and have tried everything, give CranioSacral Therapy a try. I did 17 years ago and it has changed my life. I had chronic migraines for 2 years and nothing worked. No one could help me, including multiple doctors or many medications. An acquaintance of mine who is a physical therapist suggested I try CranioSacral. I did and it worked miraculously. In my 17 years of Craniosacral and many providers, I must say Shawna is at the top of my list. Her CranioSacral Therapy is wonderful, soothing, and healing. I highly recommend her!" ~ Louise H. of Canton

"I had a bulging disk in my low back. I had major pain could hardly walk, nor stand up straight. After one session with Shawna, I felt immensely better and was standing straight. Thank you!!" ~ Elizabeth E., massage therapist/wellness coach, Kennesaw

“Shawna...thank you so much for helping me to recover from ten months of 2-3 hour DAILY seizures. After a head injury 30 years ago, I was diagnosed with epilepsy and complex seizure disorder, and affecting my ability to read, work, and drive. Initially, I was skeptical about Craniosacral therapy, but after going 10 days without a seizure (after my 2nd session), I knew it was helping. Regular CST has improved my energy and endurance levels, allowing me to return to work and help my husband with yard work again. Thank you for helping me to better understand my body and to reclaim my life!” ~ Helen D. of Dallas

"I've been seeing Shawna for Craniosacral for the past 6 years. Shawna's gifted touch takes my mind and body to such a deep state of relaxation. I consistently come away from sessions feeling in balance and at ease; with relief from discomforts. I've sent family members and clients for her work, and receive regular reports of healing, balance and relief. Her touch is a powerful experience and I highly recommend it." ~ Lynn W., counselor/yoga/meditation teacher, Marietta

Receiving sessions from Shawna is a consistently positive experience, during which I feel great benefit and changes through her skillful, intuitive touch. Although I am young and healthy, I seek assistance in keeping my body at its full potential. I am passionate about the body’s unlimited capacity to heal from the inside out. CST addresses that innate ability in a powerful way by bringing the body back into a alignment with its natural rhythms. Shawna honors this journey, as I know she will honor yours. ~ Daniel C., chiropractor, Marietta

"I had a nasty neck/headache that had lasted over 6 days. I tried advil, stretching, chiropractic, all to no avail. I finally called Shawna and got a session and WOW! Soooo much better! I highly recommend!!" ~ Ben E., professional musician, Woodstock

"I've found through my CST sessions, I'm able to more effectively manage my Multiple Sclerosis symptoms. After a session, I feel more in touch with my body and the often strange and inexplicable sensations that occur. I find new fluidity in areas that have been chronically tense and painful. Shawna intuitively works to regulate my inner rhythms towards balance and peace. I am thankful that I am able to work with her and this therapy!" ~ Mollie S., student, Sandy Springs

"I had surgery many years ago and since that time, I've needed hands-on therapy at my surgical site every 2-3 weeks. When I found Shawna 6 years ago, she instinctively knew what my body needed. Shawna has an intuitive side to her; her hands and her soul know where to go and how to "read" your body. I am grateful for Shawna...she is worth it!" ~ Amy R., psychotherapist, Marietta

  • CranioSacral Therapy

The CranioSacral System consists of the membranes, fluid, and bones that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. It plays a vital role in maintaining the health of the central nervous system, which governs all functions of the body. Since the brain and spinal cord are enclosed within the CranioSacral system, it's easy to see the broad influence it has over a variety of bodily functions.

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle form of touch that enhances the flow of fluid around the brain and spinal cord, as well as the web of connective tissue throughout the body (fascia). This fluid is produced in the brain, creating a slow rhythmic pulse as it circulates. Improved flow of this fluid provides the body with greater resilience, helping it to heal and restore healthy, balanced function. CST helps to amplify your natural healing response, to unwind tension, reduce pain, speed recovery, and improve homeostatic balance. It works just as well for animals too!

CranioSacral sessions take place on a massage table, fully-clothed. A light touch is used on to follow your CranioSacral rhythm. The flow of cerebro-spinal fluid reveals tension or restrictions, much like stones diverting water in a stream. Wherever the rhythm feels out of balance, gentle techniques are used to improve alignment, energy flow, and restore vitality. CranioSacral clients often report feeling...

    • tension release; lengthening/softening of tissues
    • re-alignments and postural improvements
    • centering and grounding
    • deep calm for mind and body
    • easier movement and reduced pain
    • expanded body awareness

Many people use CranioSacral for stress reduction, pain management, and to boost immune function. For chronic health concerns, tensions can take time to release... especially if they've been established for many years. A series of 3 to 5 sessions generally ensures progress, and will indicate if continued therapy is warranted.

Because CST enhances the body's natural healing processes, it is increasingly used as a preventive health measure. It has the ability to sustain a healthy immune system, promote relaxation, and calm the body's fight-or-flight response. Our health can be compromised by external factors, but also by hormones and chemicals released in response to the stress and strain of life. CST improves your health from the inside-out and gives a greater sense of well-being.

    • Acute and chronic aches/pains
    • Clearing inflammation
    • Migraines and headaches
    • Stress, anxiety, and depression
    • Motor-coordination impairments
    • Brain/spinal cord injuries (concussion, neuropathy, stroke...)
    • Nervous system issues (MS, tremors, Parkinson's, Bell's Palsy...)
    • Chronic and Adrenal Fatigue
    • Post-injury and post-surgical conditions
    • Jaw, dental, and orthodontic concerns
    • Prenatal and postpartum transitions
    • Insomnia and restless mind
    • Emotional concerns (grief, crisis, PTSD...)
    • Structural imbalances (scoliosis, posture/alignment)
    • ...and many others
The CranioSacral System is a water-tight tube inside the bony spinal column. It is filled with cerebro-spinal fluid (similar to amniotic fluid). The brain and spinal cord float inside this watery core, our inner ocean. In concert with the heartbeat and breath, this system pulses the fluid at a slow pace of 8-12 cycles per minute. This can be identified with a gentle touch or with scientific instruments alike.
